A new Chapter in Austin

When Brad Brown and Kewal Hausmann built their Crestview home in 2024, they envisioned a space tailored to the way they truly live—eclectic but rooted in tradition, full of personality yet warm and welcoming. With their dog at their side and a brand-new build ready for finishing, they set out to create a home with layers of texture, color, and comfort.

Discovering
John-William Interiors

Brad grew up in a home that was “very well decorated and manicured to the point that it was a little formal.” As an adult, he discovered his own love of wallpaper, textures, and color—balanced with modern whites and edges that aren’t quite as traditional. “I couldn’t do that on my own. I just happened to come across Diana Johnston, and we were thrilled to work with her.”

That discovery happened organically. “I was shopping. I looked online and also visited stores. The truth is, I walked into John-William Interiors because I had gone to eat at a restaurant nearby. When I walked in, I felt so at home and comfortable. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the furnishings on their showroom floor. And when Diana and I had a conversation, it was totally catered to what I was looking for, and I knew I could use her knowledge and expertise.”

Designing with Bold Character in Mind

The couple originally planned to update only the primary bedroom. But once they saw Diana's, and her assistant, Jacob's, ideas for textures, colors, and flow, the project grew to include a half bath, offices for both Brad and Kewal, the loft, and a guest suite.

He hadn’t expected to do so much right away. “I’m much more interested in something coming together over a long period of time rather than doing everything all at once. I just couldn’t stop, and I just kept going, and I absolutely love everything we’ve done.”

Rather than feeling rushed, the process felt natural and exciting. Brad loved how the team welcomed and elevated their ideas. Instead of dictating, they collaborated—transforming their concepts into something even better.

Living in the Finished Space

Today, the home feels deeply personal — not just decorated, but lived in and loved. The primary bedroom is warm and cozy, layered with textures and color that echo Brad and Kewal’s style, and it’s become their favorite retreat at the end of the day. The spaces flow naturally from one to the next, each room telling a small part of their story: a bold wallpaper that nods to Brad’s childhood love of pattern, a modern edge here and there that reflects Kewal’s eye for clean lines.

Walking from room to room, they see more than furniture and finishes — they see choices they made together, ideas they explored with Diana, and details that make everyday living feel elevated. The house holds their routines, their work, their gatherings with friends, and the quiet moments with their dog. It’s a place that feels finished yet still full of possibilities, and that brings them a sense of pride and anticipation for what’s next.

Advice for Other Homeowners

Brad encourages anyone considering a design project to trust their instincts and work with professionals who can amplify their vision: let a designer help it grow in ways you can’t imagine on your own.

“If you’re looking at finding the right people to work with, John-William Interiors is exactly where I would go. But my suggestion is don’t give up on what you actually feel is your style or your look because they can help you grow that in ways that you just don’t know … working with a designer is just magical.”

A Home That Reflects Their Story

What began as a spontaneous visit to a showroom has
evolved into a house full of character and a partnership that Brad and Kewal treasure. Each room now carries a piece of their journey — from the playful wallpaper choices to the layered textures that make the spaces feel collected, not staged. The result is a home that isn’t just beautiful to look at but genuinely livable; a place that supports quiet mornings, busy workdays, and evenings with their dog curled up nearby.

For Brad and Kewal, the finished home represents more than furniture and finishes. It reflects their shared values, their willingness to trust the process, and the joy of seeing their vision elevated by a designer’s expertise.

“There is nothing more comforting than being able to sit in your own home and be extremely happy to just be there,” Brad says. “I don’t want to leave my house, but when I do and I come home, it’s another experience every single time.”
